The world’s bravest expectant parents, that are waiting to have their babies despite the war, took part in the #MeaningfulGatherings at the Zhytomyr Community Foundation.
The meeting was held in a casual and friendly environment by Natalia Kazakova, the highest ranking obstetrician-gynecologist, Candidate of Medical Sciences, founder of MedisK. Zhytomyr Medical Center.

During the meeting, it turned out that it was the first pregnancy for some of the participants, some will be giving birth for the second time, and some are already expecting the fourth child, but they are still worried about the child, about the safe course of pregnancy and childbirth. Some couples’ concerns were amplified by the forceful evacuation that made them leave their beloved housing due to the war.

We spent two and a half hours actively discussing the following important topics:
pregnancy support;

• childbirth under evacuation;
• life-threatening situations when one should consult a doctor;
• myths, superstitions and taboos during pregnancy;
• nutrition, sports, hygiene for pregnant women;
• applying for a sick leave in case of relocation;
• maternity bags for pregnant women, for the baby and for the father: things to take with you.

Ms. Natalia emphasized that pregnancy support (basic tests and regular ultrasound) is free of charge, a woman is eligible for it regardless of her place of residence and registration. There is a lot of discussion about payment for childbirth itself. It is  also free.

“If you arrive and give birth with the emergency team, you do not have to pay a penny! A pregnant woman is needed to give birth. I am all for the husband to be present during the process. This is a sacred moment that should be shared by both partners”, – said Natalia Kazakova.

At the end of the meeting, parents-to-be received gifts from the Zhytomyr Community Foundation.
